Prairie Skin
Exterior

This reversible quilted construction (7’ x 11’) is designed to wrap a human and functions as map, memory, commentary and shelter. The exterior is pieced in an eccentric log cabin pattern, with commercial as well as eco-dyed and hand-printed fabric. Map marks (numbers, letters and dashed and dotted lines) refer back to the Locator Map. The interior has the Nebraska river system traced onto rice paper with graphite and annotated in ink with handwritten text (snippets of my writing, other poetry, quotations and readings). The rice paper was then covered with gauze, machine quilted and hand embroidered.
